The Light That Came On in the Locked Cottage at Dungeness

The sky is dark. The beach is quiet. Mara stands outside her small house. She looks at the cottage next door. The cottage is locked. Nobody lives there. But tonight, there is a light inside. It is a yellow light. It moves slowly. Mara's neighbor, Gil, walks to her. 'Do you see that?' he asks. 'Yes,' Mara says. 'The door is locked.' They walk to the cottage. Mara knocks on the door. A young woman opens it. She has a candle. 'I am sorry,' the woman says. 'My name is Isla. This was my grandmother's house. I have the key.' Gil smiles. 'I knew your grandmother,' he says. 'She was my friend.' Isla is sad, but she is happy to meet them. 'Come,' Gil says. 'Let's drink tea.' Isla locks the door. The three friends walk together on the dark beach. Mara feels happy now.
