💡 Grammar Points
A 3-in-1 Word
This word is actually a combination: the command 'cuenta' (tell) + the word 'nos' (us). In Spanish, when you give a command, you stick the 'who' (the person receiving the action) right onto the end of the verb.
Why the Accent Mark?
When we add 'nos' to the end of 'cuenta', the word gets longer. To make sure we still emphasize the 'cuen' part like we're supposed to, we have to add a written accent mark over the 'e'.
❌ Common Pitfalls
Forgetting the Accent
Mistake: "cuentanos"
Correction: cuéntanos. Without the accent, the pronunciation would incorrectly shift the stress to the 'ta' syllable.
Using it with Strangers
Mistake: "Using 'cuéntanos' in a very formal setting."
Correction: Use 'cuéntenos' for a more formal 'usted' version. 'Cuéntanos' is specifically for someone you are on a first-name basis with.
