How to Say "we watch" in Spanish

English → Spanish

vemos

/BEH-moss//'be.mos/

verbA1general
Use 'vemos' when referring to watching a movie, TV show, or a game, or generally seeing something from a particular vantage point.
Two children standing together, looking out a large window at a sunny park filled with trees.

Examples

Desde la ventana, vemos los árboles del parque.

From the window, we see the trees in the park.

¿Vemos una película esta noche en casa?

Shall we watch a movie tonight at home?

Cada mañana vemos salir el sol.

Every morning we watch the sun rise.

Who is 'we'?

Vemos is the form of the verb ver (to see) that you use for 'we' (nosotros or nosotras). So, Nosotros vemos means 'We see'.

Seeing vs. Looking

Use vemos for the general act of seeing or watching something. If you want to say you are actively looking at something, miramos is a better choice. Vemos is what your eyes do, miramos is what your brain tells them to do.

Present vs. Past

Mistake:Ayer vemos una película.

Correction: Ayer vimos una película. The past tense form for 'we' is `vimos`. `Vemos` is only for the present.

miramos

/mee-RAH-mohs//miˈɾamos/

verbA1general
Use 'miramos' when you are actively looking at or observing something, such as the stars or a specific object, with intention.
Two children side-by-side looking through binoculars at a distant colorful bird on a branch.

Examples

Nosotros miramos las estrellas todas las noches.

We look at the stars every night.

Miramos una película en el cine.

We are watching a movie at the cinema.

Two Times for One Word

In Spanish, the 'we' form for verbs ending in -ar is exactly the same for both the present ('we look') and the past ('we looked'). You have to use the rest of the sentence to know which one it is!

Adding 'at'

Mistake:Miramos a el cuadro.

Correction: Miramos el cuadro. You don't need to add a word for 'at' after 'mirar' when looking at objects.

General Seeing vs. Deliberate Looking

Learners often confuse 'vemos' and 'miramos' because both can translate to 'we see' or 'we watch.' Remember that 'vemos' is broader and includes simply perceiving, while 'miramos' implies a more focused, intentional act of looking.
