How does Chinese-to-Pinyin conversion work?
Pinyin writes Mandarin pronunciation with the Latin alphabet. Paste a complete word or sentence so the converter can use neighbouring characters: 行 is háng in 银行 (bank) and xíng in 旅行 (travel). Open the reading review to change an individual occurrence.
Tone marks, numbers and neutral tones
The four tones appear as mā, má, mǎ and mà, or ma1 through ma4. A neutral syllable has no mark; numeric output uses 0. Tone-free output is useful for searching but loses pronunciation information. Chinese punctuation, English text, emoji and line breaks remain in the output.
Dictionary tones and spoken changes
The default keeps dictionary tones for 一 and 不. The optional spoken-tone setting changes those two characters in context. It does not transcribe all connected-speech changes: nǐ hǎo is conventionally written with two third tones even though the first changes in speech.
Traditional Chinese and ambiguous names
Both scripts are supported without replacing your original characters. The output uses Mandarin, not Cantonese or Jyutping. Traditional script does not automatically imply Taiwan-specific pronunciation. Names, rare characters and short ambiguous phrases may need manual review.
