하다 — do
verb · 하다 → 해 · stem 하
| Form | Korean | When to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Present · polite | 해요 | 해요체: polite to the listener. |
| Past · polite | 했어요 | Adds past -았/었- before the polite ending. |
| Future / expectation · polite | 할 거예요 | -(으)ㄹ 거예요 expresses an expectation or plan. |
| Present · formal polite | 합니다 | 합니다체: a more formal style, not a separate tense. |
| Past · formal polite | 했습니다 | Past with a formal polite ending. |
| Present · casual | 해 | 해체: use only where an informal relationship permits it. |
| Past · casual | 했어 | Past in casual speech. |
| Subject honorific · polite | 하세요 | Honours the subject; this is separate from politeness to the listener. |
| Subject honorific · past | 하셨어요 | Past with subject honorification and polite speech. |
| Negative · polite | 하지 않아요 | Long negation: -지 않다. |
| Connective · and | 하고 | Links actions or descriptions; it is not a complete sentence ending. |
| Conditional · if | 하면 | -(으)면: if or when. |
For an irregular such as 듣다, the vowel-linked stem changes (들어요), but the formal present keeps ㄷ (듣습니다). 묻다 here means “ask”; 묻다 meaning “bury” is regular. Device audio requires a Korean voice.

Verbs and adjectives both conjugate
Korean descriptive predicates such as 좋다 (be good) take endings much like action verbs. Do not add an English-style ‘is’ to 좋아요. The ending already forms a complete predicate.
Politeness and honorification differ
요 makes speech polite to the listener. -(으)시- honours the person being discussed. 가요 and 가세요 are both polite, but only the latter marks an honoured subject. Special words such as 드시다 and 주무시다 also matter.
Learn irregularity with the word
듣다 becomes 들어요, but 받다 becomes 받아요. 돕다 becomes 도와요, while 입다 becomes 입어요. A final ㄷ or ㅂ alone does not tell you whether a word is irregular; this lookup uses selected lexical patterns.
