Read a full paragraph before stopping. Context does most of the work — guessing from context is the skill that makes you a fluent reader.

Work, stories, social topics, abstract ideas, and vocabulary for real conversations.

A1: introductions, routines, and simple descriptions. A2: messages, reviews, and comparisons. B1: stories, memories, and balanced opinions. B2: formal emails, arguments, and hypothetical situations. The prompts here are organised exactly this way.

Choose a task at your level and write a first draft from start to finish. Do not look anything up yet — the goal is to get your ideas onto the page in Spanish, mistakes and all. Fluency comes from producing language, not from perfecting one sentence.

Pick one prompt and write without stopping

Use the starter phrases ("Por la mañana…", "En mi opinión…") as scaffolding. Building from Spanish frames trains you to think in the language instead of translating word-for-word from English, which is where most awkward sentences come from.

Lean on sentence frames, not translation

Before you look at the answer, run your draft through the self-check. Did you hit the target length? Use the tense in focus? Cover every part of the prompt? Catching your own gaps is the single most effective way to improve.

Self-correct against the checklist

Reveal the model answer and read it next to yours. Notice the connectors, the verb tenses, and the word order — then rewrite one or two of your sentences to match. Imitating strong examples is how good writing is absorbed.

Compare with the model answer

Writing improves fastest when paired with input. Read Spanish daily so the phrasing, gender agreement, and idioms you just practised start to feel automatic the next time you write.

Read and immerse to lock it in

Accents change meaning: el (the) vs. él (he), si (if) vs. sí (yes), tu (your) vs. tú (you). Skipping them — or writing "n" for "ñ" — is treated as a spelling mistake. Learn the accent keyboard shortcuts and use them.

Missing accents and the ñ

Some words look English but mean something else: embarazada means "pregnant" (not embarrassed), actualmente means "currently" (not actually), and asistir means "to attend". Double-check any word that looks suspiciously familiar.

False friends

Adjectives must match the noun in gender and number: una casa blanca, unos libros rojos. English speakers forget to change the ending — "una casa blanco" immediately reads as non-native. Check every adjective against its noun.

Gender and adjective agreement

Both translate as "for". Roughly, por covers cause, exchange and duration (gracias por todo, por la mañana); para covers purpose, destination and deadlines (estudio para aprender, salgo para Madrid). When in doubt, ask: reason (por) or goal (para)?

Por vs. para

English has one verb "to be"; Spanish has two. Use ser for identity and permanent traits (soy profesor, es alto) and estar for states and location (estoy cansado, está en Madrid). Saying "es cansado" instead of "está cansado" is one of the most common beginner errors.

Ser vs. estar

Spanish doesn't map one-to-one onto English. Adjectives usually follow the noun (un coche rojo), and you can drop subject pronouns ("Vivo en Madrid", not "Yo vivo…", unless you need emphasis). Write in Spanish patterns, not translated English.
