TR Sound

Perfect the TR consonant cluster

💡 Practice Tips

The TR cluster is one of the trickiest combinations in Spanish because it places two difficult sounds right next to each other. The T in Spanish is dental — your tongue touches the back of your upper teeth, not the alveolar ridge like in English. Immediately after this dental T, you need to produce a quick tap R. English speakers often insert a slight ''ch'' sound (saying ''tchr'' instead of ''tr''), or they use their English R, which makes the combination sound mushy. Practice slowly: say T with your tongue on your teeth, then immediately flick the tip for the R. The key is keeping the R very brief — it''s a single tap, not a roll. Gradually speed up as the transition becomes smooth.
