Watch, trace, recall
First watch the character being built. Use Next stroke to slow down the sequence, then start practice and draw with a finger, stylus or mouse. After two misses, a hint shows the expected stroke. Turn off the outline when you can recall the shape.
General stroke-order principles
Common patterns include top before bottom, left before right, horizontal before vertical, and an enclosure before its contents with the bottom closing stroke last. These are guides rather than exception-free rules; consult the actual character model.
Regional conventions matter
This tool uses the Make Me a Hanzi dataset, distributed through Hanzi Writer. It includes both Simplified and Traditional characters, but does not offer separate mainland, Taiwan and Hong Kong standards. A regional textbook may legitimately show a different order or glyph.
Coverage and feedback
Locally hosted data covers 9,574 Han characters. Unavailable characters are reported rather than replaced. Drawing feedback compares your strokes with this model; it is practice guidance, not handwriting recognition, calligraphy grading or certification. Keyboard users can explore the model and individual strokes without drawing.
