More than one-to-one replacement
Simplified characters can correspond to several Traditional characters. For example, 发 can represent 發 or 髮 depending on the word. OpenCC uses phrase dictionaries to make these choices, but names and unusual wording can still require proofreading.
Which Traditional profile should I choose?
OpenCC standard produces general Traditional forms. Taiwan and Hong Kong character profiles apply regional character variants. Taiwan vocabulary conversion additionally changes known regional terms, such as 软件 to 軟體. Choose the profile for your audience rather than assuming all Traditional text is identical.
Will converting back restore the original?
Not always. Simplification can merge distinct characters, and regional vocabulary conversion can replace words. Converting the result back is not a guarantee that the original spelling or meaning is recovered. Keep your source text for comparison.
Scripts are not spoken languages
Changing Chinese script does not translate between Mandarin and Cantonese, add pronunciation or rewrite grammar. English, emoji, punctuation and line breaks are retained. For Mandarin pronunciation, use the separate Pinyin converter.
