What does an HSK text analyzer measure?
It checks the vocabulary in a passage against a versioned list. This tool uses all 11,000 entries in the November 2025 examination syllabus. It reports occurrences first introduced in each band and cumulative coverage through each band, excluding non-Chinese punctuation and text.
How are Chinese words segmented?
The analyzer uses the longest available syllabus match from each position. Unmatched Han characters count one at a time. This transparent method can overestimate familiarity by splitting a new compound into known parts. It is not a full grammatical parser or a substitute for reading the passage.
Ambiguous characters and later uses
Contextual Pinyin helps distinguish readings such as cháng and zhǎng for 长. Where candidate entries still span multiple levels, the result is marked ambiguous and excluded from certain coverage. Parenthesized source levels remain available for review because additional meanings and parts of speech can be introduced later.
Choose reading with context
The 90% summary is a configurable-method study cue, not an official proficiency score. Story suggestions compare actual source-story vocabulary with your selected study band and aim near 95% lexical coverage. Names, idioms, grammar, cultural references and your own knowledge can change the real difficulty.
