How to use French dictation practice
- Listen once for meaning, then replay the sentence to catch the words.
- Type what you hear, including accents and apostrophes. Check for silent plural endings and verb agreement.
- Check your answer, compare the aligned transcript, and repeat difficult sentences.
What does the score measure?
Word accuracy compares your spelling with the original written story. Missing words, extra words and spelling errors reduce the score; accent differences are identified separately. Capitalization and curly versus straight apostrophes are ignored. Punctuation is reported without reducing the score. A valid paraphrase is not an exact dictation.
Are these new listening lessons?
Every sentence comes from an existing French story and uses its original recording and word timestamps. Only excerpts with complete timing alignment are included. Story levels describe the source story, not an independently validated difficulty for every sentence.
