عِنْدَهَا جَمَلٌ سَرِيعٌ وَجَمِيلٌ اسْمُهُ "البَرْقُ".

والله جدي رحمه الله كان يقول لنا... في زمانهم، كانت تظهر امرأة على الطريق، تلبس ملابس بيضاء، وحلوة الصوت... تنادي على السائق يوقف يساعدها... واللي يوقف يشوف رجلها... رجلها زي حافر الحمار. من يشوفها ما يرجع.

كُلَّ صَبَاحٍ، يَذْهَبُ سَامِر إِلَى الجَبَلِ مَعَ الأَغْنَامِ.

كَانَتْ بَعْضُهَا زَلِقَةً، وَرَأَيَا سَرَاطِينَ صَغِيرَةً وَطُيُورًا وَرْدِيَّةً فِي مَاءٍ قَلِيلٍ.

تَحْتَ السَّطْحِ، انْفَتَحَ عَالَمٌ آخَرُ مِنَ السِّحْرِ وَالْجَمَالِ: أَسْرَابٌ مِنَ الْأَسْمَاكِ الْمُلَوَّنَةِ تَتَرَاقَصُ بَيْنَ تَشَقُّقَاتِ الْمُرْجَانِ، وَظِلٌّ خَفِيفٌ لِسَمَكَةِ قِرْشٍ يَعْبُرُ بَعِيدًا فِي الْأَعْمَاقِ.

Under the surface, another world of magic and beauty opened up: schools of colorful fish dancing among the cracks of the coral, and a light shadow of a shark crossing far off in the depths.

فِي جَنْحِ اللَّيْلِ، حَمَلَهُ عَلَى ظَهْرِ بَغْلٍ صَغِيرٍ، مُتَجَاهِلًا خَطَرَ الْعَدْوَى وَخَطَرَ عِصْيَانِ الْأَوَامِرِ.

ثُمَّ رَأَى طُيُورًا وَرْدِيَّةً تَطِيرُ نَحْوَ اَلنَّخِيلِ.

خَافَ يُوسُفُ عَلَى الْجَامُوسِ الَّذِي كَانَ يَرْعَى فِي جَزِيرَةٍ قَرِيبَةٍ، وَخَافَ عَلَى الْبَيْتِ الَّذِي بَنَاهُ جَدُّهُ بِيَدَيْهِ مُنْذُ سَنَوَاتٍ طَوِيلَةٍ.

Yusuf feared for the buffaloes which were grazing on a nearby island, and he feared for the house which his grandfather had built with his own hands many years ago.

إِنَّهُ جَدْيٌ صَغِيرٌ عَالِقٌ!
