Find your level.
Find your next story.
A short written-skills check to help you choose where to start. Explore your grammar, vocabulary and reading, then get stories to try next.
An informal A1–B1 written-skills check, not a CEFR certificate. Choose “Not sure” when you need to; no dictionary required.
Your answers lead to a suggested reading starting point and a review of the skills to practice.
What does this French placement test tell me?
The test samples a small set of written skills. Four correct answers out of six in a band allow the recommendation to progress, provided the earlier bands also meet that threshold. Missing foundations keep the starting recommendation lower, even if some harder answers are correct. These thresholds are an editorial practice rule and have not been statistically calibrated.
Is the result an official French level?
No. Overall proficiency includes several skills, and reading may be stronger than speaking or listening. Use the result to choose practice material. For an official result, use a recognized assessment with the skills and conditions you need.
What should I do afterwards?
Read a recommended story with audio and word help. If you understand its main events comfortably, try the next level. Review missed answers to choose a grammar topic rather than repeatedly memorizing this fixed test.
