About Spanish Accents
Spanish uses accents (called tildes or acentos) to indicate which syllable should be stressed when pronouncing a word. The most common accented letters are á, é, í, ó, and ú. Spanish also uses the letter ñ (eñe), which represents a unique sound, and ü (u with dieresis) in certain word combinations.
Spanish punctuation includes inverted question marks (¿) and exclamation points (¡) at the beginning of questions and exclamations. While accents might seem optional when texting, they're essential for proper Spanish writing and can change the meaning of words entirely.
