Indefinite: uno studente

Nouns in -e usually become -i. Lo is used before s + consonant.

Notice both gender and the first sound.

Endings are useful clues, but learn each noun with its article. Some everyday nouns break the common patterns.

il libro → i libri · un libro

the book → the books · a book

Most masculine nouns beginning with an ordinary consonant use il / i; the indefinite article is un.
