Make sense of what you’re practicing
Group by ten thousand
Japanese uses 万 for 10,000, 億 for 100,000,000 and 兆 for 1,000,000,000,000. Split large numbers into four-digit groups from the right, instead of the three-digit groups used in English.
Listen for sound changes
Some combinations change sound: 300 is さんびゃく, 600 is ろっぴゃく, 800 is はっぴゃく, 3,000 is さんぜん and 8,000 is はっせん.
A number is only the beginning
