Make sense of what you’re practicing
Start with one group
Learn vowel shapes first, then consonants, then combine them. Confusing ㅓ and ㅗ is common: pay attention to the direction of the short stroke rather than guessing from the romanization.
Move from letters to blocks
Recognizing ㄱ and ㅏ separately is only the beginning. Read 가 as one syllable, then add a final consonant to make 강. The syllable round helps connect the separate letters to the complete block.
Final letters are not always final sounds
옷 ends in a t sound before a pause, even though ㅅ is usually written s at the beginning of a syllable. The batchim round checks isolated final sounds; connected speech requires additional linking rules.
