  2. Compare written Hangul with the pronunciation in brackets.

  3. Listen for connected syllables in a short story excerpt.

Selected, explained examples. Brackets show a pronunciation respelling, not correct spelling. Matching a word inside pasted text does not analyze the whole sentence or changes across word boundaries.

A little understanding goes a long way

Make sense of what you’re practicing

01

Spelling preserves word structure

Korean spelling often keeps a stem recognizable even when pronunciation changes. 먹다 is pronounced [먹따], but the written ㄷ remains. Learn the spelling and the sound together; do not replace standard spelling with pronunciation respellings.

02

Rules interact

A cluster can simplify before a following consonant, and that consonant can then become tense. 읽다 is [익따], 읽고 is [일꼬], and 읽어요 is [일거요]. Treat a word’s surroundings as part of the pronunciation task.

03

Practice one short stretch of speech

Listen once without the transcript, then reveal it and notice where the written syllables link. Repeat the same paragraph before moving on. The source story gives you the full context, vocabulary help and longer listening practice.
