Sound matters more than letters
The same spelling can be pronounced differently across languages and families. This collection assumes English pronunciation. For a name from another language, work from its actual sounds rather than reading it as English.
Korean may need extra syllables
Hangul syllables follow Korean sound patterns. English consonant clusters can require an extra vowel: Alex is commonly rendered 알렉스. Some distinctions, such as English r and l, cannot be copied exactly into Korean.
A spelling is not a new identity
Transcribing a name does not supply a Korean surname or a Hanja meaning. Existing personal preference and established usage matter. Confirm the spelling with the person named, especially before using it publicly or on a permanent item.
